About the client
The University of New York in Prague (UNYP) is a private university in central Prague, founded in 1998. All its degree programs are taught in English following the American model of education. Students can earn a US degree in cooperation with SUNY Empire State University as well as a European degree accredited in the Czech Republic. They come from more than 80 countries.
About the project
For UNYP we develop a comprehensive custom web application – an information system for the university's academic and administrative agenda. It covers the management of students and their study data, enrollment, teaching timetables, grading, payments and visa and residence matters. University staff and students both use it, and it supports communication between them. The system is integrated with the university's internal systems and provides overviews of academic processes. The project is long-running and expands as the school's needs change.

05Visas & residence
When students arrive from all over the world, a visa is part of studying
Students from outside the European Union need a long-stay visa or a long-term residence permit to study in the Czech Republic for more than 90 days. At a university with students from more than 80 countries, that is a routine part of the academic agenda – which is why the administration of visa and residence matters has its place in the system, next to the study data.
For the curious
Citizens of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland do not need a visa to study in the Czech Republic. Other students need a long-stay visa for the purpose of study, or a long-term residence permit, for a stay longer than 90 days. The conditions are set by the Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals (No. 326/1999 Coll.) and described in detail by the Czech Ministry of the Interior.
